South Lake Tahoe firefighter-paramedic Neil Schnaible is in critical condition following a medical emergency that occurred while he was on duty. Schnaible, a dedicated member of the Lake Valley Fire Protection District, suffered a heart attack while actively responding to an incident. His colleagues immediately sprang into action, administering life-saving measures such as CPR, successfully restoring his pulse at the scene. However, the situation remained dire as Schnaible collapsed, falling to the ground and sustaining serious head injuries, including multiple brain bleeds.
Schnaible was swiftly transported to Renown Regional Medical Center, where he remains under intensive care. Doctors continue to monitor his condition closely as he faces a long and uncertain road to recovery. Colleagues have described him as a calm, professional, and dependable presence within the fire service, someone who is always ready to help others, even in the most challenging circumstances. His sudden medical crisis has left his department in shock, as they now focus not only on their work but also on supporting their fellow firefighter through this difficult time.
Adding to the family’s distress, Schnaible’s wife and daughter were overseas in Greece at the time of the incident. In response, the fire service community has rallied to support the family, launching a campaign to assist with travel and medical expenses. The outpouring of generosity from the local community and beyond highlights the respect and admiration Schnaible has earned over the years. As he remains in critical care, his family and colleagues are united in their hopes for his recovery, and the firefighting community continues to show their unwavering support for one of their own.
